Splitkin ("the app") is developed by Jamal Mulla ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with your data. The short version: the app is built so your documents stay on your device.

Your files stay on your device

Splitkin tracks shared group expenses. Your groups and expenses are stored on your device first and the app works fully offline. If you sign in and share a group, that group's data (group name, member names, expense descriptions, amounts and payments) is stored on our server, hosted in the United Kingdom, so it can sync between group members and be viewed by people you share the invite link with. Groups you never share stay on your device only. We operate no server that receives, stores, or processes your file contents, and your files are never uploaded or shared.

Analytics we collect

We use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated usage analytics, for example that a group was created or an expense was added, so we can understand how the app is used and improve it. These events do not include expense descriptions, amounts, names or any personal identifier, and are tied only to a random anonymous identifier, not to you. Analytics are hosted in the EU.

What we do not collect

We do not require an account and do not ask for your name, email, or other personal identifiers. We do not collect the contents of your files. We do not use advertising or sell data to anyone.

Permissions

Creating an account is optional and only needed to sync and share groups; accounts use your email address, handled by Google Firebase Authentication, solely for signing you in. If you use receipt scanning (a paid feature), the photo you choose is sent to our server and passed to an AI service to read the line items; receipt images are processed and not stored by us. Anyone who receives a group invite link can view that group and add expenses to it as a guest, so only share links with people in the group.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a new "last updated" date.
